ARTICLES
A ,an,the ( articles) is a word that
is used to limit the meaning of the noun. Article or clothing said, is divided
into two kinds, namely : the definite and indefinite . There is also zero
meaning no word article of clothing.
1) Definite Article (The)
The is a definite article before the noun located (people/goods) in a single form that is clear or specific. Articles the can be interpreted the same as that in the Indonesian language, although that is more specifically used to assign it to something that is far from the speaker, while the object is used to talk about the obvious (the speaker and talk to know about the object).
Example:
Ø The place that i just visited is cozy => used when the noun is devoted by word , phrase , or clause .
Ø My cat is sleeping in the garage => used when specified by the situation in which something is already clear.
Ø There’s a girl in front of the bookstore => used as a noun in question has been mentioned in the previous sentence.
2) Indefinite Article (A/An)
a. Article A
Article A is used for nouns that begin with consonants ( consonant ) or vowel that has consonant sounds .
· Article A is used before consonant:
1. A car
2. A dog Has one meaning in things(objects)
3. A blackboard
· Article A is used before vowel that has consonant sounds:
1. A university
2. A useful man
3. A European
Example:
Ø It is a snake
Ø I want to read a book
b. Article An
An article is used for nouns that begin with a vowel ( a,i,u,e,o) or in front of nouns that begin with the letter H which is not pressurized or not sound so vocal sounds.
· An article is used before vowel:
1. An apple
2. An elephant
3. An umbrella
· An article used before h which reads vocal:
1. An honourable man
2. An hour
3. An honorarium
Example:
Ø Give me an egg
3) Zero Article
Means no article article (either definite (the) and indefinite article (a/an) ) that need to be used for a noun (a noun).
Example:
Ø He can speak English, Japanese, and French => when the noun is used to refer to people (plural) because when the word refers to the name of the nation,the possibility of definite article used.
Ø Could you teach physics or math?
Ø The students are playing basketball.
